I went to my birthplace, the Dhaka cantonment area, to cast my vote. My polling place was at Dhamalcoat Uchcha Bidyalay, the education institute founded by my father. It was a great experience to have been able to vote alongside all my peers and close ones. There was a feeling of festivity, as everyone voted peacefully.

Renowned artist Syed Jahangir passed away yesterday at 11 am at his residence in Iqbal Road, Mohammadpur in Dhaka. He was 83 years old at that time. His body was taken to the Faculty of Fine Art (FFA), University of Dhaka (DU) for paying last respects.

Today marks the 104th birth anniversary of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, the founding father of Bangladeshi art and art education. Born in Mymensingh, Abedin grew up in the serene landscape by the river Brahmaputra. In 1933, he enrolled at Calcutta Government Art School, and later taught at the institute. He was an influential member of the Calcutta Group of progressive artists.
