IFIC Bank PLC, under the initiative of the Bangladesh Bank, organised a special campaign at AGB Colony Kitchen Market in Dhaka’s Motijheel yesterday to promote Bangla QR and encourage wider adoption of digital payments across the country.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman visited the market as part of the campaign and demonstrated the convenience of digital payments by purchasing goods from a local merchant using Bangla QR, according to a press release issued by IFIC Bank.

The campaign commenced at 9am.

During the visit, the governor interacted with local merchants and highlighted the benefits of Bangla QR, cashless transactions and safe and secure digital payments.

Speaking at the event, IFIC Bank Managing Director Syed Mansur Mustafa said the government’s initiative to promote cashless transactions was steadily gaining popularity with the support of Bangladesh Bank.

He said the introduction of free access to Bangla QR-based payment services from October 1 would further accelerate adoption of the digital payment system.

Mansur also highlighted the role of cashless transactions in ensuring greater transparency and good governance.

He expressed optimism that Bangla QR transactions would soon gain wider acceptance among consumers and businesses.

Bangladesh Bank has been implementing various initiatives, including Bangla QR, to expand cashless transactions and develop an inclusive digital payment ecosystem, the release said.

As part of these efforts, IFIC Bank said it is bringing digital banking and payment services closer to customers through its network of more than 1,400 branches and sub-branches and around 60,000 merchants across the country.
