Prime Bank PLC yesterday launched Bangladesh’s first financial literacy initiative through puppet shows, aiming to teach children essential money-management skills through storytelling and age-appropriate learning.

Md Iqbal Mohasin, director of the Financial Inclusion Department of Bangladesh Bank, inaugurated the initiative at Prime Tower in Khilkhet, Dhaka, to mark International Literacy Day 2026, according to a press release.

“Financial inclusion is not charity; it is a responsibility to make our economy more inclusive. On International Literacy Day, Prime Bank has taken an exemplary initiative by introducing financial literacy through puppet shows,” Iqbal said.

“Such innovative approaches can strengthen our collective efforts to equip the next generation with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed financial decisions.”

He also appreciated Prime Bank’s Student Banking and Empowering Youth initiatives, particularly its efforts to promote financial education among young people through engagement programmes at universities.

This year’s International Literacy Day marks its 60th anniversary and is being observed under UNESCO’s theme, “Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity.”

As part of the initiative, the puppet shows will be broadcast on Prime Bank’s official social media platforms. Each episode will explain financial concepts in a simple and engaging format, enabling children and parents to learn together.

“Financial literacy is an essential foundation for meaningful financial inclusion. Access to banking services alone is not enough; people must also have the knowledge, confidence and skills to make informed financial decisions and use financial services responsibly,” said M Nazeem A Chowdhury, additional managing director of Prime Bank, who chaired the event.

MM Mahbub Hasan, senior vice-president and head of financial inclusion and school banking at Prime Bank PLC; Shaila Abedin, senior vice-president and head of liability and women banking; Nabila Khalid, vice-president and head of brand and communications; Mamur Ahmed, senior executive vice-president and head of distribution; Debashis Roy, additional director of Bangladesh Bank; Waliullah Bhuiyan, chairman and CEO of Light of Hope Ltd; and Nazmul Arefin Momel, chief executive officer of ToguMogu Pvt Limited, were also present.
