Amitav Ghosh and Dipesh Chakrabarty to keynote DIU conference in December

Celebrated novelist Amitav Ghosh and historian Dipesh Chakrabarty will deliver keynote addresses at an international conference hosted by Daffodil International University (DIU) in Dhaka on December 4-5, 2026.

The conference, titled Beyond Nature and Culture: Planetary Precarity in Literary-Cultural-Linguistic Representations, will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participation both in person and online.

Organised by the Department of English at DIU, the event will focus on themes including ecology, colonial modernity, environmental justice, language and sustainability.

Ghosh will attend the conference in person, while Chakrabarty will join online.

The conference will feature four thematic tracks covering colonial modernity and precarity, posthuman ecologies, environmental justice, and sustainability literacy.

Abstract submissions of 150-200 words will be accepted until June 15, 2026. Selected papers will be considered for publication in an edited volume planned with Springer Nature and the Star Scholars Network.
