A Rohingya man from Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya was injured in a landmine blast inside Myanmar yesterday, according to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The blast occurred around 3:30pm in an area across the border from Palongkhali in Ukhiya, said Colonel Md Zahirul Islam, commanding officer of BGB’s 64 Battalion, in a press release.

The injured man was identified as Hamid Hossain Sundari, a resident of Block C-27 of the registered Kutupalong camp.

According to the BGB, the explosion occurred about 250 yards west of the zero line, around two kilometres north of border pillar BRM-19 and 1.5km northeast of the Palongkhali BGB Border Outpost.

Hamid later crossed into Bangladesh after being injured in the blast.

With assistance from BGB members and local residents, he was taken to MSF Hospital in Kutupalong for treatment.
