Afran Nisho lauded as Best Actor in Popular Choice for ‘AKA’

Afran Nisho won the Best Actor Male (Popular) award at the Blender’s Choice–The Daily Star OTT & Digital Content Awards 2025 for his performance in “AKA”.

Directed by Vicky Zahed, the seven-episode Hoichoi original is a psychological social thriller centred on Azad, also known as Aka, a deeply troubled man carrying the trauma of a violent incident he witnessed within his family as a child. The experience leaves him isolated and struggling to connect with society. 

Nisho portrays the complex central character, who is drawn to music and has a gift for writing, yet is also capable of violence. His troubled psyche is further reflected in the way he sees animal faces in place of human ones. Masuma Rahman Nabila stars alongside Nisho in the series. 

“AKA” also marked another collaboration between Nisho and Zahed. The two have previously worked together on projects including “Punorjonmo”, “Redrum”, “Ditiyo Shuchona”, “Chompa House” and “Chirokal Aaj”. 

Over the years, Nisho has built a diverse body of work across television, OTT and cinema. Among his notable OTT projects are “Kaiser” and “Syndicate”, while he made his big-screen debut with Raihan Rafi’s “Surongo” in 2023. He later starred in Shihab Shaheen’s “Daagi” in 2025.
