Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury has revealed that he was initially approached to act in Dev-starrer “Khadaan”, but had to step away from the project because of scheduling complications.

Depp and Dane had developed a close friendship years earlier through shared connections, which led the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor to open his home to Dane during his final months.

A moving story rooted in the Liberation War and the spirit of the Language Movement is set to reach television audiences through the special drama “Amar Bornomala”.

The actor made his early mark in cinema in 1972 with “Ora 11 Jon”, appearing as a war criminal in one of the country’s earliest post-Liberation War films.

Released in 1970, the film is widely regarded as a landmark political allegory in Bangladeshi cinema. Though produced before independence, its critique of authoritarian rule and symbolic engagement with collective resistance have long linked it to commemorations surrounding the Language Movement.

The country’s film industry traditionally sees renewed momentum during the two Eid festivals each year. While interest in theatrical releases often remains subdued for the rest of the year, filmmakers typically rush to secure Eid slots. This trend has continued for several years. Last year, six films were released during each Eid, totalling 12. This time, however, the number may surpass that figure during Eid-ul-Fitr alone, with as many as 16 films currently aiming for release. Titled “Sangkalan”, the exhibition will open on February 20 at Galerie Zoom inside Alliance Française de Dhaka in Dhanmondi. Running through February 28, the show examines how vernacular print media — from magazines and literary supplements to pamphlets and posters — became instruments of resistance, documentation and collective identity in the decades following the Language Movement.
