DCs ordered to enforce fixed LPG prices

Says Adviser Zahed

The government has instructed all the deputy commissioners (DCs) to take necessary measures to ensure a steady supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the open market and enforce the prices fixed for LPG and autogas by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission.

Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman disclosed the matter at a weekly press briefing at the Secretariat yesterday.

Acknowledging that LPG is not being sold at the fixed price in some places, he said regular monitoring is being conducted in different districts through mobile courts operated by the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection and the local administration.

Noting that the energy minister had held several meetings with business leaders involved in the LPG sector, the adviser said they have assured the minister of all-out cooperation to keep the market stable.

“The government hopes the current crisis in the LPG market will ease through these initiatives.”

In response to a question, Zahed said political reconciliation would be a good thing, but it would be difficult without acknowledgement of wrongdoing and repentance by Awami League, whose activities are banned.

Welcoming any initiative by third parties to initiate reconciliation, he also advised interested parties to engage with the Awami League.
