Rohit becomes third Indian batter to reach 12,000 ODI runs after Tendulkar, Kohli

Rohit Sharma has added another significant milestone to his illustrious ODI career during the second match against West Indies in Guwahati, becoming the seventh batter to reach 12,000 runs in Men's One Day Internationals.

The India opener achieved the feat with a single off Roston Chase in the 16th over, becoming only the third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli to enter the exclusive club.

Rohit scored 101 off 75 balls with 10 fours and six sixes.

Rohit joins an illustrious list of batters that includes Tendulkar, Kohli, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardena.

Since making his ODI debut in 2007, Rohit has established himself as one of the most influential batters in the format. Across 290 matches, he has scored 12,000 runs, including 34 centuries and 62 half-centuries.

His ODI career has also been marked by remarkable feats, none more notable than his unbeaten 264 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata in 2014. The innings remains the highest individual score in Men's ODI cricket. Rohit is also the only batter to have scored three double-centuries in the format.

Known for his elegant strokeplay and ability to accelerate, Rohit has been a key figure in India's campaigns at recent ICC Men's Cricket World Cups. Having led India to the final in 2023, he will be looking to add the one major honour missing from his ODI career: a 50-over World Cup winners' medal.

Speaking to JioStar, Rohit said, “The thought will never cross my mind that the business I had is finished. As long as you’re playing, there is always something to look forward to. And I’m looking forward to the World Cup (in 2027), looking at what lies ahead for me.”

“When the World Cup is played, when we play an ICC tournament, it has its own unique challenge, because you face different opponents, you play at different venues.

"So, you have to prepare differently, think in a different way and that is the challenge," he added.
