Bangladesh star Hamza Choudhury backed Argentina to beat England in tonight’s 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinal, saying “the greatest footballer of all time” Lionel Messi’s presence could prove decisive in Atlanta.

Speaking during the "bKash Presents The Dream Cup with Hamza" programme, the midfielder said the reigning champions had “a chance to go all the way”.

"Argentina will definitely reach the World Cup final. They've got a squad that has been together for a long time," he said.

While acknowledging Argentina’s depth, Hamza highlighted Messi’s “fear factor” and influence. “They've got plenty of good players. But ultimately, it will be down to Messi.”

The semifinal marks Messi’s first-ever meeting with England, adding another chapter to a historic rivalry that has produced iconic moments.

Hamza also reflected on Messi’s “amazing career”, saying his greatness came from both natural ability and relentless dedication.

"His long time at Barcelona was just like a beautiful fairytale. He was completely unplayable for many years.

"Like I have said before, he completely redefined how the game of football is played. Some people believe that he was just born with this special gift. I do believe he was born with a huge natural talent, but I also believe he worked incredibly hard every single day to get to the level he did.

“You do not stay at the top for that long without putting in the hard work," he added.

Asked how defenders can stop Messi, Hamza said: "The truth is it's impossible -- for me, and for everyone else."

"People always ask: Is Messi the greatest football player of all time? For me, the answer is definitely yes. He is the absolute best. Sometimes, football is simply magical, and no one brings more magic to the sport than him."
