HerFinance crowned champion at ‘Tech for Her Hackathon 2026’

Team HerFinance emerged as the champion of the Tech for Her Hackathon 2026, held recently in Chattogram.

Hosted by the CSE Club of Asian University for Women (AUW), the 12-team competition aimed to develop technology-driven solutions to challenges faced by women.

Organised by HerWILL and Machine Learning Bangladesh, the event saw Team OpportUni finish as the first runner-up and Team Herizon as the second runner-up, according to a press release.

The hackathon brought together young women to identify real-world challenges, develop practical prototypes and present solutions. Teams were encouraged to understand user needs and build innovative, functional and accessible solutions with potential social impact.

The projects were evaluated on relevance, innovation, functionality, usability, social impact and teamwork.

GenSpark supported the event as the technology partner, Mutual Trust Bank PLC as the premium banking and career partner, and ATB Jobs Bangladesh as the placement partner.

The hackathon began with a session by GenSpark, led by Shaiful Islam Bapin, founder of AIQNIC, followed by a briefing on the challenge. Participants then worked on their selected problem statements and presented their prototypes to the judges.

The judging process followed a 100-point framework, assessing the relevance of the problems identified, originality, functionality, usability, potential social impact and teams’ communication and collaboration skills.

Participants also attended a financial literacy workshop conducted by Myful Akter, branch manager of Mutual Trust Bank PLC’s Chittagong branch, before the prize-giving ceremony.

The event combined technology learning, financial literacy and career development, providing participants with opportunities to apply their technical skills and creativity to challenges affecting women’s lives.
