Eastern Bank observes World Environment Day
Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) recently organised an interactive session, titled “Leaders Driving Sustainable Change”, at its head office in Dhaka to observe World Environment Day 2026.
Through the initiative, the bank reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable banking practices and environmental responsibility.
The programme brought together leading voices from the business, development and sustainability sectors to discuss the role of institutions in advancing a more sustainable and climate-resilient future, according to a press release.
Hassan O Rashid, managing director of the bank, inaugurated the programme and, sharing his thoughts, said, “Sustainability is no longer a choice; it is a business imperative.”
“At EBL, we believe responsible banking can play a transformative role in addressing climate challenges while creating long-term value for our customers, communities and the economy,” he added.
Md Enamul Haque, national director of SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh; Armana Ahmed, head of development; and Asadulghani, head of biosafety at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b); along with Shihab Ahmed, chief sales officer of Shanta Holdings Ltd, attended the programme.
This year’s global theme for the day was “Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For Our Future”.
Senior management, employees, development partners, clients and guests were also present at the event.
