DU suspends Prof Zeenat Huda over allegations linked to July Uprising

Dhaka University Professor Zeenat Huda has been suspended over allegations that she took a position against students during the July Uprising.

The decision was taken on Wednesday, at a meeting of the university’s Syndicate, its highest policy-making body, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Prof Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane, DU pro-vice-chancellor (administration), confirmed the suspension to The Daily Star, saying a probe committee had earlier been formed following complaints from students against Huda.

“The decision to suspend her was taken based on the recommendations of that committee,” he said.

A tribunal has also been formed to investigate the allegations, and further action will be taken based on its report, Alfasane said.

Zeenat is a professor in the Department of Sociology and has served twice as general secretary of the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association.
