Haaland injury scare leaves Man City sweating
Manchester City will be sweating over the fitness of Erling Haaland after the striker was forced off while playing for Norway on Sunday.
Haaland started Norway’s Nations League clash with Portugal but was substituted in the 67th minute after appearing to signal to the bench that he was hurt.
The 26-year-old was replaced by Crystal Palace forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, with the extent of Haaland’s injury still unclear.
City will be desperate to get their star striker back to England for an immediate assessment.
The timing could hardly be worse, with a huge Premier League clash against Liverpool waiting when domestic action resumes after the international break.
Haaland was taken off with the score level at 1-1 in Porto.
Norway had taken the lead in the 36th minute when Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer produced a stunning volley.
Portugal hit back just two minutes later through Joao Cancelo, leaving the sides level at half-time.
Haaland’s departure proved costly for Norway, with Goncalo Ramos scoring in the 79th minute to complete Portugal’s comeback.
The striker’s potential injury will now be the main concern for City, with Enzo Maresca desperate to know whether Haaland will be fit for the crucial return to Premier League action.
The match also provided plenty of drama away from Haaland’s injury.
Cristiano Ronaldo was not involved for Portugal after reportedly leaving the national camp following his exclusion from the first meeting between the two sides in Oslo.
An alleged rift between the former Manchester United forward and Portugal boss Jorge Jesus prompted the 41-year-old to leave the camp and head to Madrid.
Ronaldo’s absence has now raised further questions over his international future, but for City, all eyes will be on Haaland and the results of his medical assessment.
